Termites: Odontotermes obesus (Termitidae: Isoptera)

a significant issue in light soils. Sett germination was weak (after planting), and the standing crop had distinctive semi-circular feeding marks on the border of the leaves. The entire shoot can be pulled out after it dries up. Setts have a hollow interior that can be filled with dirt. If disturbed, the cane falls; the rind is mud-filled. Adults are tiny, cream-colored insects with dark heads that resemble ants.

Management

1.     Find and eliminate the termite colony.

2.     Rid the field of the damaged setts.

3.     Imidacloprid 70 WS 100–150 g per 100 setts should be applied to the setts.

4.     Spray either imidacloprid 17.8 SL 350 ml or chlorantraniprole 18.5 SC 500-625 ml.

5.     with 500 L/ha of water.
