Thrips: Thrips tabaci (Thripidae: Thysanoptera) 

Damage symptoms: In severe infestations, both nymph and adult lacerate the tissue and suck the sap from the upper and below surface of leaves, curling up and becoming crushed. Early stages of assault are characterised by a silvery sheen on the bottom surface.

Bionomics: Adults are small, slender, brown to yellowish in colour, have fringed wings, and fly away when startled. Very tiny, elongated, yellowish, and microscopic nymph.

Management

Ø  Following the 14th day after sowing, keep an eye on the adults and nymphs.

Ø  Use 500 L of water per hectare to squirt any of the following pesticides.
