PEST OF LONG PEPPER

1 Mealy bug: Dysmicoccus sp

Symptoms of damage

Ø Mealy bug infestation at the root causes the susceptible plant to yellow.

Ø Plant growth that is slowed.

 

Management

Ø Neem cake applied to the soil at a rate of 60 kg/ac

Ø Dimethoate 2 ml/lit soil drenching close to the root zone of the affected plants.

 

2. Tea mosquito bug: Helopeltis theivora   

Symptoms of damage

Ø Nymphs and adults assault the plant violently by nibbling on the delicate leaf.

Ø Around the feeding puncture, necrotic lesions form, producing shot holes on the lamina.

Identification of the pest

Ø Adult: black color with a red thorax, a black and white abdomen, and wings that are more of a greenish brown color.

Management

Ø For improved control, use phosalone 2ml/lit of water in the evening.
